where did I leave off yesterday ? Edo ? Comes handy, let's stay there.
You can just abandon the attempt and try something else first. Or wait until your opponent has successfully done so.
The best place for an Edo probe is probably right in front of an Outpost Raid - if you guessed right, that one is nearly impossible to pass and the player will either have to seek greener grounds or suffer two losses and 10 points on the wrong side of his account.
But you might already know I don't like point suckers that much, even though the 10 points lost could mean the difference between having to do three or four missions. And here, it will only work if somebody is redshirting or has a less well staffed away team or crew in the first place.
But like so often, cards have more than one use. Let's assume you know your opponent often seeds a certain mission with a deadly Dilemma combo. Like several Love Interests, followed by a Barclay's Disease or similar nasties. And you cannot do anything once the Love Interests hit as they don't stop you, so you must continue. How about seeding an Edo probe yourself, after the opponent has put his first Dilemma (the big hitter you'll see last) under that mission. That way, you can evaluate your losses and take the option of not continuing with a critically weakened crew. Thus, you have turned your Edo Probe into an Emergency Transporter Armbands that won't clutter up your Draw deck.
Summary: Edo probe combines weakened versions of several cards (Sarjenka, ETA, The Higher...) into one Dilemma. It is versatile, but not really strong. I'd rather use the more purpose-oriented cards unless I have a few slots left in my seed deck and want to keep my draw deck small, when you might see a few of them as seeded ETA's. Unless I have a reliable way of stopping my opponent, in which case the probe is better that The Higher... (more points taken).
