Wesley's STCCG card of the day #171

Hi, folks,

I've used so many smileys in COTD, today I'll let our good captain Jean- Luc use one:

TEMPORAL NARCOSIS

Interrupt, uncommon AU.
Plays when opponent uses Horga'hn, Revolving Door, Emergency Transporter Armbands or Energy Vortex. Your next turn take a double turn. AU Icon.
"Debilitating disorientation caused by prolonged exposure to a temporal disturbance, similar to nitrogen narcosis ('the bends'). Jean-Luc Picard experienced this in 2369."
Hmm. Time Walk (for you Magic Guys)? Good thing to have. If it weren't just for the fact that it has a prerequisite, so let's analyze that first.

Your opponent must be using any one of:

Horga'hn: Get your little revenge on him. When he takes double turns, you are quite justified in doing the same, aren't you ? Too bad yours isn't permanent but it might get you the one crucial turn.

Revolving Door: If he just use it to close your AU doorway, you have no opportunity to play the Narcosis as you need an open door to be allowed to throw it. So it only apples when your opponent uses the revolving door to either reopen his AU door or to kill your Iconian gateway, both of which will not be very common uses of the Revolving door.

Emergency Transporter Armbands: Ah, so your opponent is playing the Oops card? And then you need an extra turn to beat him? What do you think the last 170 COTD's were for???

Energy Vortex: Hmm, finally a card we might see and still be able to use our Temporal Narcosis. So we don't get to play our crucial card and get an extra turn instead - after the opponent has another chance to do whatever we wanted to stop him from with the card we just played. But maybe we get another turn - err two turns.

To summarize: We have an extra turn usable (a) for somewhat compensating on an Horga'hn, (b) when somebody closes your Iconian Gateway or opens his AU door with a revolving door instead of a Kevin, (c) when somebody uses the Vortex to disturb us. (I don't count the ETA here. You don't need an extra turn if your opponent plays ETA's. Trust me.)

In a tournament, of course you can just count on your opponent having a Horga'hn. Play your narcosis and get one turn - hopefully the one turn you need to get your own Horga'hn.

BTW: Timing here. It would be nice to nullify an attempt at closing your AU door with a Kevin and then to seek some revenge with an extra turn from the narcosis. Too bad the "just played" time frame ends as soon as your Kevin resolves :-(
