November 27 1996 - After months of secret negotiations, Decipher and Viacom Consumer Products, the licensing division of Paramount Pictures, signed a ground-breaking new, exclusive licensing agreement for collectible card game expansions.
This great CCG that you have supported so loyally will carry on. The license covers the territories of the U.S. and Canada, and Decipher and Viacom Consumer Products International will select exclusive distributors for the game in other territories.
But that's not all!
This license will extend Decipher's CCG rights for the next four years and encompasses the following Paramount Pictures Star Trek [R] properties:
This will make it possible for us to create new affiliations, new quadrants, expanded battle scenarios and a whole host of exciting characters and ships. Imagine cards like the U.S.S. Defiant, U.S.S. Voyager, Captain Sisko and his crew, Captain Janeway and her crew, the Emergency Medical Holographic Program, Neelix, and, of course, beware the Dominion... And what of dream cards from Star Trek: First Contact [TM]? All of this, and more, is now in your future. This thrilling news guarantees our Star Trek: The Next Generation[TM] Customizable Card Game [TM] a very bright future. Our development strategy is to incorporate the new properties, and their associated characters and events, into our existing game with the new name of Star Trek [TM] Customizable Card Game [TM]. We are putting together a timeline for the release of expansion sets and other exciting products. We will also increase our player support activities with the launch of a sanctioned tournament program, national rankings and other events to be announced in the near future.
