Wesley's STCCG card of the day #137

Hi, folks,

what was that I mentioned yesterday ? Non-aligned ships ? Like a

MERCENARY SHIP

Ship, Non-aligned, common.
Range 7
Weapons 7
Shields 7
Long-Range Scan Shielding
Requires 0 Command (*) and 2 Staff (+)
"Little-known ship. Difficult to track due to a unique hull design that renders it invisible to long-range scans. Baran captained one in 2370."
Not bad, not bad at all... (trivia buff question: Where's this quote from ?)

Two crew, no gold stars necessary, lotsa sevens and everybody can use it. Although, with a little Brainwashing (Neural Servo Device) you can take this "everybody" more literally than the player of this ship will like.

Of course, there's the Combat Vessel you have to compare this ship to. You get one less range and weapons, but one more shields. The 1 Weapons would not be that critical, but the range difference between 7 and 8 just sux, as all those (really common) 5/3 and 4/4 span combinations will now take two moves instead of one.

One more shields on the other hand is quite desirable against any battle deck and against a Crystal Entity. It'll make up for the range loss in a slow, defensive deck, but not in a fast deck.

And the special ability of long-range-scan shielding ? I yet have to see a player using a long-range scan so count that as the generic special ability "Suck *ss."
