Wesley's STCCG card of the day #103

Hi, folks,

here's another little nasty surprise:

COURT-MARTIAL

Interrupt, common, Dream card.
Play on an away team that just lost a member. Unless Bureaucracy (*) present, its player loses 10 points.
"With the often unjust court-martials, the Admirality frequently piles the insult of punishment on top of the injury of losing a valued crewmember."
(*) Bureaucracy is a skill I invented to enhance a few of my Admiral characters. You can substitute Leadership.
Try this with a Klingon Battle deck. Each time you win a battle, just drain 10 points from your opponent, too. Also works nicely with some of the middle- strength dilemmas. (It is not usable with the Crystalline Entity and not very sensible with Barclay's P. Disease.)

Of course, this works a little differently whether it is worded with Leadership or Bureaucracy. Whilst Leadership is a skill useful in itself, Bureaucracy was very much designed to be a "shortcut" skill present as an alternative to some really hefty mission requirements and as a skill useful to avoid some otherwise nasty plots.

In the Bureaucracy variant this is a bigger threat, especially to speed deck players. With only a few (albeit good) Bureaucracy-capable cards you will be in a little trouble getting them out. (I have made up only three of them.) Also, Bureaucracy is a strategy in itself, so even if these cards were available you might hit a few players with this.

With Leadership, at least the Federation won't have too much trouble getting around this one.

If you want to experiment with Bureaucracy, here's a Bonus Card:

Admiral Connaught Rossa

Personnel, Federation, uncommon, Dream Card.
Integrity 8, Cunning 7, Strength 3
OFFICER, Diplomacy, Bureaucracy, Anthropology, Honor. Command Star (*).
(From "Suddenly Human")

Favorite combo(s):
Rating : 7.5 (Bureaucracy) / 6.5 (Leadership)
